It's no secret that at Evans & Moose we're continually trying to find the balance in a world that often feels rushed and overwhelming, where slowing down can seem like a luxury or for us as small business owners, a failure. Yet, we still crave moments of calm and connection like so many others, and despite the annoying little voice in our head that tries to convince us we're not doing enough, it's important we find those moments of intentional calmness and embrace them. One way to find both calm and connection is through a book club designed for a slower life. Our online T.C.L.C book club offers a space to enjoy reading at a relaxed pace, connect with others all over the world, and embrace the joy of slow living.
Why Book Clubs Matter
Book clubs have long been a way to bring people together around a shared love of stories. They offer more than just reading; they create community. Discussing books helps readers see different perspectives and deepen their understanding. It also encourages accountability to keep reading regularly.
For many, book clubs provide a break from daily routines. They offer a chance to slow down, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations. This is especially important in today’s fast-paced world where genuine connection can be hard to find.
Online book clubs remove many barriers that traditional clubs face. You don’t need to worry about travel, fitting in a set time to your already hectic schedule, or location. Members can join from anywhere, making it easier to fit reading and discussion into busy lives. We preach balance in all things, so this is a great way to bring the gap between being constantly plugged in and distancing too far from community.
Our online book club is designed to be flexible and welcoming. Members can participate in online discussions or catch up later through the forum and chat groups. We hope it grows to become a extension of the T.C.L.C community, where you feel supported in slowing down, not judged. This flexibility supports slow living by allowing people to engage at their own pace without pressure.
The online format also opens the door to diverse voices. People from different backgrounds and places bring unique insights to the books, enriching the experience for everyone. So it's a win win really...

Connecting with Others Through Books
Reading can be a solitary activity, but sharing it with others adds a special dimension. Our book club fosters connections by encouraging thoughtful dialogue and shared experiences. Members often find friendships that extend beyond the pages.
The club’s atmosphere is friendly and supportive. Everyone’s opinion matters, and there’s no rush to finish a book quickly, yes, there's a new one each month but the bookshelf grows so you can pick and choose as you please. This creates a safe space where people feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and emotions, and finding other people embarking on a more intentional life where rest isn't punished or doesn't come as a reward for pushing yourself to near burnout... we've all been there.
Embracing Slow Living Through Reading
Slow living is about making intentional choices to reduce stress and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. Reading fits perfectly into this lifestyle. It's also a great excuse to visit bookshops and fill up more shelf space with beautiful books... who doesn't love that! Although, if you're like me, you'll be finding books in all sorts of weird and wonderful places and the bookshelves are well and truly jam packed! It encourages mindfulness, focus, and a break from screens and distractions.
Our book club supports slow living by selecting books that inspire reflection and calm. Books that focus on the seasons, or share slow living memoirs and tales, they could be fiction or non-fiction. The book club allows for unhurried reflection whilst still holding you accountable to having some down time... too often we find excuses to skip the self care so this is a great way to ensure you find that kindness.
